Years ago my hubby came home with an Oak cupboard that he had bought for me at a garage sale .... I have been wanting to paint it for sometime now as my taste has changed.
This is the only before photo I have now! I do apologize, Its only a side view - But you get an idea of the wood color before.
Let me explain -When I started uploading the 'before' photos, there were none! What a shock, I realized I forgot to check the SD card and it turns out it wasn't in the camera! ( oh boohoo! )
So now I can't post the pictures of the painting process. *sigh* it was such a fun photo shoot!
But I'm thankful I had one unpainted panel left and so I snapped a quick shot and thankfully my SD card was in the camera this time round! Ha!
I'll have to just move right along to the after pic!
I used Annie Sloans chalk paint because you don't need to sand the wood or prime it before you paint. There are a variety of colors to choose from. To seal the paint you use the Annie Sloan wax. There's two kinds, a dark wax and a clear wax. For this cupboard my choice is the clear wax because I want a crispy white finish.

Start by giving the cupboard a good clean. Wipe it with a cloth to remove all dust and any cobwebs.
Make sure to give the paint itself a good mix n stir before hand, then grab your best paint brush and start painting.
It is different to a normal PVA paint, but eventually you will get the hang of it.
**TIP: Just don't go back and forth over a wet paint stroke, rather apply single strokes and wait for it to dry, then you repeat if necessary. it dry's quickly. I like the fact that it dry's so quick, means I can complete a paint project in record time!
I needed two coats on this cupboard for the look I wanted to achieve but you decide what look you want.

Once the painting is done and dry you can apply the wax. Apply the wax with a soft cloth and move the cloth in circular motions over the entire painted area. its really very easy. you can do this!
I then replaced the old wooden knobs with glass knobs that my husband found for me at our local hardware store. (I know! He is a keeper! <3)
At last! its a completed project, and I am absolutely thrilled at the outcome.
This cupboard stands in my patio/braai area and I use it as storage for cutlery, table cloths and table setting goodies for when we have people over. It makes it easier so that I don't have to keep running to the kitchen, for a plate or a spoon or whatever is needed. It serves a practical purpose, yet its a lovely feature for the area.
So who got a new coat? The cupboard of course! A new coat of paint!
